While most know Katie Causey Miller in her former life as a non-profit exec, her roots are in contemporary art and herbalism. She is maker, artist, chandler, perfumer, budding herbalist, and essence collaborator. Katie graduated from UNCA with a degree in printmaking and quickly realized that marketing herself for the sake of art was not in her repertoire. She ended up marketing and fundraising on behalf of other artists for nearly 15 years and raised upwards of $30 million for artists and arts organizations. When Katie released corporate non-profit work in 2021 to consult, this opened her up to a renewed version of her creative practice.
Causey Miller’s quiet and solitary practice has now become a life-line and connection point for so many aspects of her life. Her art is a balancer, bringer of thoughtful shadow work and transformative individualized moments. Causey Miller’s practice includes a form of divinatory/trance based art making that unfurls into two dimensional works, sacred altar spaces, and herbal concoctions. These multi-sensory experiences bring healing and deep care to the viewer.
Katie’s philosophy is about balance - of unlearning and seeing the synchronicities. A balance of the primitive and the contemporary, of ancestral ingredients, and passionate scholarship.
